Fanbase, a next-generation social media app, has become the latest up-and-coming business to move into Encore, Georgia Tech’s business growth-and-scaling hub in West Midtown. Located within The Interlock mixed-use complex on Howell Mill Road, Encore is positioned to connect companies to the resources and talent of Georgia Tech and other schools and businesses in the rapidly growing technology epicenter Atlanta has become.
How Retail and Office Work Together
Leasing space near retail outlets has become a bigger priority for office tenants that want to attract and retain talent or lure back remote workers. “The retail and food-and-beverage surrounding office has become a significant driver of desirability,” said Adam Showalter, managing director of Stream Realty Partners’ national office investor services. “It has become a major topic of conversation in the [site selection] decisionmaking process.”

Modern private clubs with four-figure memberships on the rise in Atlanta
Modern private clubs are a rising trend in Atlanta’s retail scene.
When Mandy Slater of Slater Hospitality opened L.O.A. Social Club in West Midtown a couple of years ago with her husband, Kevin Slater, the plan was always to turn it into what is now: a member’s-only space where you can work, host events or bring friends to lounge in a cabana in peace.
“L.O.A. stands for ‘leave of absence,’ and that’s the mentality we want our members to embrace here,” said Slater, sitting poolside, frozen drink in hand.

Bellyard, West Midtown Atlanta, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Ever since it opened its doors in May 2021, the 161-key Bellyard Hotel has lifted the standards of all Atlanta hotels. “The General Manager and staff were welcoming and accommodating and the restaurant was excellent,” one reader noted, adding that the “overall atmosphere was fun and upbeat.” Another called the boutique hotel “quiet, but right in the center of everything,” while yet another said it was “super lux and fun to hang out in.” But perhaps it can all be wrapped up in the accolades: “Definitely the coolest hotel in Atlanta.”
To Be or Not to Be at The Interlock
The Interlock, a $450 million mixed-use center with unparalleled entertainment, living and dining, office space and outdoor connections, amenities and parks, is serving as a donation location for Atlanta Unbound Academy and The B.E.S.T. Academy to collect school supplies for the 2022-23 school year.
Through the end of August, The Interlock will be accepting school supply donations for both area schools in the property management office located on the first level of The Interlock’s lobby. Those interested in donating can stop by Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Escape Game opens at The Interlock in West Midtown
The Escape Game recently opened its doors to the public at The Interlock in West Midtown, providing a new escape room experience for Atlantans.
Located under Puttshack on 14th Street, the 4,172-square-foot escape room offers 60-minute adventures filled with clues and puzzles to solve along the way.
The Escape has six different experiences to choose from — all of which are intricately designed for total immersion — including a heist, a prison break and even a time-travelling train, among others.
L.O.A., Atlanta's swankiest rooftop, has gone members-only
After two summers of public access, Atlanta’s swankiest rooftop playland for adults is switching to a members-only model high above the growing Interlock district in West Midtown.
L.O.A. Social Club, as the 38,000-square-foot, swim-and-dine concept above Interlock’s first phase is now called, is being billed as a “private rooftop getaway” as Atlanta’s pool season approaches again.
Mandy Slater, Slater Hospitality’s cofounder and chief creative officer, tells Urbanize Atlanta the changes officially took place in January.
Atlanta Drum Academy to perform at The Interlock this week
ATLANTA – The talented youth drummers of the Atlanta Drum Academy are performing in Atlanta this week.
The Interlock in Atlanta will host the event at 6 p.m. with food and drink vendors and merchandise. The drummers will go on at 7, and guests will have a chance to ask questions and try out the drums themselves following the performance.
The July 27 event is just one of two big performances for the young performers.

Owned by Slater Hospitality, the group behind Ponce City Market rooftop amusement park Skyline Park and restaurant Nine Mile Station, expect a sprawling 300-seat restaurant serving what’s described as “coastal European” fare, a lush garden-like outdoor bar and lounge called the Grove, and a pool complete with views of the Atlanta skyline, sun loungers and private cabanas, and its own indoor bar.
New tenants line up to join phase two of The Interlock
With phase one of West Midtown’s mixed-use hotspot The Interlock nearly fully leased, several new tenants have signed on to join phase two of the project, located adjacent to the current property at the intersection of Ethel and Northside Drive. The second phase of the project is currently under construction. Recently signed new leases for phase two include Starbucks, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Salon Lofts and Five Guys. Phase two will be anchored by a 42,000-square-foot Publix grocery store, 670 rooms for Georgia Tech student housing, 275,000 square feet of commercial space and limited restaurant opportunities.
